Why use it?

Veganisme

At leve vegansk er ”en måde at leve på, som søger at undgå (så vidt som muligt og praktisabelt) alle former for udnyttelse af og grusomhed imod dyr til føde, tøj og andre formål”. Denne definition stammer fra det britiske Vegan Society, som i sin tid skabte betegnelsen ‘veganer’. Dvs. veganere lever plantebaseret og søger så vidt muligt, udover kød, fjerkræ, fisk, skaldyr og biprodukter fra slagtning, at undgå animalske produkter som mælk, æg, ost, læder, pels, uld, honning, produkter testet på dyr, m.v.

Alle veganere er per definition også vegetarer.

Hvorfor?

Der er mange gode grunde til, at leve vegansk. De fleste fremhæver etik, bæredygtighed, miljø og/eller sundhed, som hovedårsagerne til at de har valgt en vegansk livsstil.

Som veganer har man ofte det synspunkt, at alle levende skabninger har ret til et liv i frihed. Konkret at undgå animalske produkter er en af de mest oplagte måder, hvormed du kan handle på dette synspunkt og derved tage et aktivt standpunkt imod dyreudnyttelse.

For mange mennesker indgår det at leve vegansk som en del af en samlet livsindstilling, hvor flere begrundelser indgår i en større helhed.
